Kenyan eCitizen portal is meant to allow Kenyans to access and pay for all government information and services online What you actually need is an e-Citizen  Kenyan Identification Number and your first name.

Following the application of an e citizen account, one can use the e Citizen Kenya login to access various government services. One of the amenities that can be located on the e-Citizen platform includes all services regarding one’s driving license.

eCitizen Driving Licence Renewal

A driving license (DL) is documentation that allows its holder to drive various classes of motor vehicles on the road. This means that anyone driving without a valid driving license is a lawbreaker. Additionally, nobody is allowed to hold more than one driving license, but any person may have one driving permit endorsed to enable more classes of vehicles operation.

How to check my driving licence is original

Using the e-Citizen platform, Kenyan citizens can access driving license status inquiry. Besides this, they can check if their DL is valid or fake. The other option to know if one’s DL is original is using the KRA RTD driving license checker found on the KRA website. KRA website also provides KRA driving licence replacement services. Additionally, one can check using the NTSA app that can be downloaded from Google Play store on the NTSA driving licence checker.

For checking driving license status, one can use the NTSA driving license status by sending the word DL to 22430 to subscribe. This is followed by dialling *512#, ID number/passport number or their Kenya driving licence number and clicking OK.

The cost of the transaction is 6/= NTSA refers to a statutory body enforced by the National Transport and Safety Authority Act (2012) to ensure safety on Kenyan roads. For this reason, NTSA is in charge of several services such as Motor Vehicle Registration and Inspection, Road Safety, Traffic Law enhancement, Transport Licensing and Driver Testing.

E Citizen Kenya Driving Licence Renewal Process

Thanks to the digital trend, it is simple to renew one’s defaced or lost driving license in a matter of 5 minutes at the comfort of your house or office. New regulations put in place in 2014 changed the issuing of driving licenses from banks and Huduma Centres to e Citizen.

The first step includes logging in to the NTSA online portal then clicking on the services tab and the drop-down menu select NTSA eCitizen online payment option. Secondly, you will have to sign up for an e citizen account or log in if you already have an account. After logging into the platform make your application by clicking the option Duplicate driving license.

This will take you to another page and select on the drop-down menu defaced if your DL has a destroyed picture and distorted writings. Select lost if your DL is lost and remember to attach a police abstract to compete for the submission and fill in your file reference number. If you have forgotten your file number, you can get it on your phone by first subscribing to NTSA service by sending DL to 22430 then dialling *512#.

After completing the submission, you can pay for the service using either M-Pesa or debit card. The cost of this super service is Ksh 1050, and you will get a confirmation message on the screen. Then an additional pop up for eCitizen “your application for the duplicate driving license has been received awaiting payment confirmation.”

Clicking on this pop up will take you to another page where you can print the invoice or save it as a PDF on your computer. Lastly, you will have to visit Times Towers or NTSA offices to pick up your new license, and you must bring along your invoice, one passport photo, and old DL or police abstract.
