Kenyans react after Uhuru said Ruto likes loitering around

Uhuru and Ruto

Kenyans poured on social media to express their views after President Uhuru Kenyatta in an unprecedented move, referred to his deputy William Ruto as a man who loves to roam around the country on weekends.

Uhuru said Ruto is always roaming around on weekends and called on Kenyans to pass their grievances to the DP whenever they spot him around their areas.

“Hii kijana anaitwa Ruto unajua kila wikendi anatangatanga kila pahali. Atakuwa anapitia hizi machochoro. Akiona kitu inaenda konakona mmwambie (This young man called Ruto, you know he likes roaming everywhere every weekend. He will be passing through these routes. If he sees anything that’s not going well, tell him),” Uhuru said during a rally on Wednesday, May 30, in Nairobi’s Eastlands.

We sampled some of the reactions posted on Twitter by Kenyans.

The post by the president’s communication team was carefully edited to omit the exact words Uhuru said but hawk-eyed Kenyans noticed it.

In Swahili, kutangatanga is translated to mean roaming or loitering but the PSCU had wrote kutembea which means travelling.

Some other Kenyans threw in cheeky comments.

Some read politics in Uhuru’s statement saying he was indicating what to expect in the 2022 elections.
