Police on Monday night arrested the Chama Cha Mashinani (CCM) party Chief Agent after he was caught dishing out money to a group of people in Bomet County.
The police are currently holding the Chief Agent, Mr Alex Kirui, on charges that he was holding an illegal political meeting on Monday night.
Mr Kirui is a close aide to National Super Alliance (NASA) co-principal, Governor Isaac Ruto and police suspect that the accused was offering a monetary incentive to voters so that they would vote for the incumbent governor.
Speaking to journalists just moments after casting his ballot, the Bomet Governor defended his aide stating that he had instructed Mr
Kirui to hold the meeting.
“My Chief Agent Mr Kirui was arrested at Kaboson when he was trying to pay my party agents.
“The OCS told us he was holding a night meeting and told us he could not be released on bond,” Ruto confirmed.
The NASA leader also expressed confidence in how the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) was conducting the polls.
“Everything is going on well. I think IEBC is doing a fair work.
“Personally I have no serious intentions to go round the polling stations,” he conveyed.
Governor Ruto will be going head to head with his main challenger from the Jubilee party, Dr Joyce Laboso.
