Sports CS Rashid Echesa fired in major Cabinet reshuffle

– Amina Mohammed took over the Sports docket while KNEC CEO George Magoha replaced her in the Ministry of Education

– Principal Secretary in ICT Ministry Fatuma Hirsi was similarly fired

– Also, other principal secretaries were moved to different departments

President Uhuru Kenyatta has made a principal Cabinet reshuffle that has seen Sports Cabinet Secretary Mr Rashid Echesa rendered jobless.

Education CS Amina Mohammed was transferred to the Sports docket in place for Rashid Echesa while the Kenya National Examination Council CEO George Magoha was chosen to replace Amina.

The other person who was fired in the Executive Order which was issued on Friday, March 1, 2019,was the Principal Secretary for the State Department for Broadcasting and Telecommunications, Fatuma Hirsi.

There were further reassignments in which Principal Secretary Ali Noor Ismail was reshuffled to the State Department of Cooperatives and Ibrahim Mohamed reassigned to the State Department of Environment and Forestry.

Peter Kiplagat Tum took over State Department of Labour, Margaret Mwakima was reassigned to the State Department of East African Affairs while Susan Koech took over the State Department of Wildlife.

Late 2018, there were rumours about the president making a significant reshuffle in his administration which was highly anticipated by Kenyans.

Among those who were singled out included Echesa who was pointed out as engaging more in politics than delivering on Uhuru’s Big Four Agenda.

At one point, while on his tour in Nyanza region, the Head of State gave the CS a dress down after he seemed clueless over the dilapidated condition of Jaramogi Oginga Odinga mausoleum which is managed by the National Museums of Kenya (NMK) which was under his docket.
